Jewel was born in 1905 and died at age 91 in Truro, Colchester Co., NS. She was the daughter of Maude Brenton and Angus Henderson. She married Porter MacLean. Jewel was a music teacher; married; raised by Aunt Christine Brenton and Rev. George Whidden. George was a minister and the family moved around from church to church. They resided in Tatamgouche and New Waterford, among other places. Jewel graduated from New Waterford High School. No children born to this couple. Jewel was buried at Robie Street Cemetery.
Obituary for Jewel Miller (Henderson) - Halifax Herald - Mail Star Died Nov. 1, 1996 in Colchester Regional Hospital. Truro. Born in Stellarton. She was a daughter of the late Angus and Maude (Brenton) Henderson. She was raised by her uncle and aunt, Rev. George and Christine Whidden. She was a graduate of Central High School, New Waterford and for 3 years studied music at Acadia Ladies' Seminary and for a year taught music in Tatamagouche. She was secretary for the Children's Aid Society, Truro; Acadia Trust Company; Canadian Bank of Commerce; Colchester Tuberculosis League and The Nova Scotia Lung Association. She acted as handicap chairman for the Truro Golf Club; was a charter member of Truro Duplicate Bridge Club; Colchester Chapter of the IODE and the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She was a life member of the United Church of Canada, as well as a long time choir member and treasurer of Unit NM of First United Church, Truro. Surviving are sisters-in-law, Marjorie Henderson, Brookfield, Marion Bonham, Victoria, BC, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband J. Porter; sisters, Jean Crouch, Mildred Egan, Constance Mason; brother, Donald B. Burial in Robie Street Cemetery.
