DEATH OF LANSON HENDERSON
Lanson V. Henderson, Fulton County circuit clerk, passed away at his home in Cuba early Sunday evening following a serious illness of some 11 weeks, at the age of 63 (64) years.
A son of Wesley and Ida (Casper) Henderson, he was born Nov. 30, 1871 (1870) on a farm five miles northwest of Cuba where he spent his boyhood. His grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Nathaniel Henderson, were Cass township pioneers, having settled in the township in 1843.
On June 17, 1895 (1894) he was married to Eva Mae Matheny, who, with three children, survives him. The children are Doyle Henderson, San Jose, Cal; Mrs. Agnes White of Canton and Blake Henderson, at home. Two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Shaver of Marietta and Mrs. Mae McWhorter of Sinnett Chapel are also living..
Mr. Henderson followed farming until early manhood, when he moved to Cuba and became an electrician. For five years he acted as superintendent of the Cuba municipal electric plant. After it was sold, he was employed with the Star Coal company mines as engineer and electrician.
Always active in democratic politics, he had held several offices of importance and trust in Putman townshp. He had served as township clerk, and for eight years had acted as assessor. In 1932 he was elected circuit clerk.
Mr. Henderson was a man whose sterling qualities of character were never put on display. Absolutely unassuming, direct and frank in all his contacts, his many friends knew always exactly where he stood on any matter and they were sure of finding him on the side of common sense and wisdom. His reputation for honesty and integrity caused the people of his township, and later, of the county to place in him unbounded confidence. These solid characteristics were the secret of his political success, for he had never stooped to either curry favor or "play politics" in his campaigns for office.
Mr. Henderson was a member of the Sinnett Chapel M. P. church, and was a past grand and past chief patriarch of the Odd Fellows, of which he had been a member for 35 years.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the Cuba Methodist Protestant church, in charge of the Rev. L. E. Hague. The members of the Odd Fellow lodge attended in a body. County officers and a host of friends from all over the county join\joined the citizens of Cuba in attendance to crown the church to overflowing. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. Interment was in the Cuba cemetery.
