Biography

"Archibald Henderson, was married in August 1801 to Sarah Alexander, sister of William Lee Alexander and Governor Nathaniel Alexander, both graduates of Princeton. Archibald and Sarah Alexander Henderson had two children, Archibald II and Jane Carolina Henderson, who was married first to Dr. Lueco Mitchell and after his death, to Nathaniel Boyden, able lawyer and sometime Associate Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court, who was awaiting his commission as Provisional Governor of North Carolina at the time of President Lincoln's assassination.” from: HENDERSON(S) OF GREENE COUNTY, ALABAMA ANCESTRY CONSIDERATION (With South Carolina Map and two W.D. “Dave” Henderson Photos Included)

Born near Williamsboro, Vance County, N.C., August 7, 1768. Lawyer; U.S. Representative from North Carolina at-large, 1799-1803; member of North Carolina house of commons, 1807-09, 1814, 1819-20. HENDERSON, Archibald, a Representative from North Carolina; born near Williamsborough, Granville County, N.C., August 7, 1768; attended the common schools and was graduated from Springer College; moved to Salisbury, N.C., about 1790; studied law; was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Salisbury; clerk and master in equity 1795-1798; elected as a Federalist to the Sixth and Seventh Congresses (March 4, 1799-March 3, 1803); member of the State house of commons 1807-1809, 1814, 1819, and 1820; resumed the practice of law in Salisbury, N.C., and died there October 21, 1822; interment in the City Cemetery.
