Biography

This profile is part of the Henderson Name Study.

Early Life

William was born on 20 Nov 1890[1][2] in Laurel Hill, Florida. [3][4]. He was the son of John Henderson and Caledonia Paul
In 1900, he appeared on the Census in McDades Pond, Walton County, Florida as the oldest of 5 children. His father works as a mill hand. [5]
In 1901, Bob's younger brother, John, dies. [6].
In 1909, the family lost two more children. Maggie Irene died at 2 years old on December 2, 1909. A week later, his five month old brother, Almer died on December 7, 1909.
In 1910, the family lived in Laurel Hill, Walton, Florida on Florala and Laurel Hill Road. John now owns a farm and "Bob" helps him work it. His mother reports that between 1900 and 1910, the family has lost 5 children. So, in addition to the three I've named, two more children were born and died since 1900.[7]

Appearance

When Bob registered for the WWI draft, he was medium build, had brown hair, and gray eyes. [8]

Marriage and Family

On 23 Jul 1916, in Santa Rosa County, Anna Johnson and William Harvey "Bob" Henderson marry. [9][10]
In 1917, the couple welcomed their first child, Eva Mae, then in 1920, the couple delivered a stillborn son. [4]
In 1920, he and Anna own a farm near her family. They have one daughter, Eva. [11] He also appears on the census with his parents. [12]
In 1930, he and Anna have five children. They live on N. Seventh Ave. in Pensacola, Florida. He is working as a painter, and his young cousin Harvey William Henderson lives with him - also working as a painter. [13]
In 1931, the family lived on 313 N Cordova in Pensacola, Florida. [14]
In 1934, they lived on 512 E Wright Street in Pensacola, Florida. He worked as a grocery selling fruit. [15] According to the family, he worked as a painter, but Anna ran the grocery.
In 1935, they still lived on 512 E Wright Street, but he worked as a painter, again. [16] Anna worked as a merchant. [17] She ran a local grocery store. [18]
In 1936, directory reports him as a grocer selling fruit again and still living on Wright street. [19] as does the 1938 dirctory. [20]
By 1942, Bob is back to painting, and the couple still live in the same location. [21]
1945, the family lives in on Gadsden Street in Escambia County, Florida and have 6 children still at home. Their 18-year-old daughter, Lyndall, is married and lives with them, along with her baby daughter, Patricia. Her husband doesn't appear on the census. His brother, Lonnie Henderson, lives with the family, too. [22]
In 1948 through 1950, the family lived on Belmont Street in Pensacola, Florida. He still worked as a painter. [23][24][25]

Death and Burial

Following a long bout with brain cancer [26] He passed away in 23 Mar 1952[27] and is buried in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Pensacola, Escambia County, Florida, USA [1][28][3]

His mother reports that between 1900 and 1910, the family has lost 5 children. So, in addition to the three I've named, two more children were born and subsequently died between 1900 and 1910.[7]
