Eleanor Hendricks was born in 1744 in Gunpowder Hundred, English province of Maryland. She was the daughter of Henry Hendricks and Jane Linville. Everyone called her "Nellie". Although her family generally used Hendricks as the spelling of their surname, it was sometimes spelled Hendrix.

Nellie Hendricks married John P. Odell Sr., b: 1728 in Prince George's, Maryland, in 1764 in Maryland. After their first three sons were born, they moved to South Carolina in 1768 along with John Odell's parents. Other related Hendricks (aka Hendrix) and Linville families had already settled along the Enoree River in what was then the 96th District of the Province of South Carolina as early as 1750. [1]

Nellie Hendricks Odell died on her family plantation at O'Dell's Ford (aka O'Dell's Landing) in Laurens County, South Carolina, USA, in the month of March 1809. [3]
