Cecil Hendricks (1918-2012)
BLUE RIDGE - Mr. Cecil Lee Hendricks of Blue Ridge passed away Monday, Dec. 3, 2012 at his residence in Blue Ridge. Cecil Lee was born on July 20, 1918 to Olyn G. and Elsie Barker Hendricks at Route 2 Anna, Texas. He attended school in Valdasta and Melissa. He joined the U.S. Army in 1940 and spent five years in the Pacific during World War II.
Upon his return home, he engaged in farming, which he loved. He worked very hard and always felt the Lord would provide. On June 4, 1949 he married Johnnie Frances Kemp at the First Baptist Church in Blue Ridge, and they spent all their married life together on the farm which he bought from his grandfather Barker's estate.
To this union, three children were born: Kathy Lynn, John Duwe and Clifford Lee. In 1960 a tragic event happened in this family when John became ill and passed away in 1964. Without God, family members and friends, this family would have been devastated. Many days Cecil Lee would plow and cry. He never wanted his family to see him in such a state as he wanted to be a strong daddy for them.
He always tried to live a Christian life before them and support them in every way he could. Cecil was always faithful to his church and tried to participate in all activities. He was ordained as a deacon at the Valdasta Baptist Church in 1952 and served as best he could since then.He loved being the "Candy Man" at the church and seeing all of the children.
He is survived by his wife, Johnnie Hendricks; daughter, Kathy Lynn Scribner; son, Clifford Lee Hendricks; daughter-in-law, Jackie Hendricks; niece, Ann Eller; grandchildren, Cinda Owen, Bradley Scribner, Cassie Domenico, Dustin Hendricks, Tiffany Hendricks, Haley Hendricks; great grandchildren, Connor Owen, Chesney Owen, Brody Scribner, Sydney Scribner, Grayson Scribner, Ryan Turbeville, Makalya Domenico, Stryker Hendricks and one due in January, Aspen Hendricks.
These grandchildren and great-grandchildren have been such a wonderful part of this life and may they never forget his love for them. He was preceded in death by his parents Olyn and Elsie Hendricks, his son John Duwe, his sister Hazel West, whom he loved very much, and son-in-law Bobby Scribner.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Blue Ridge Baptist Church in Blue Ridge, Texas with Rev. Shawn Bailey and Rev. Johnnie Jones officiating and Cinda Owen delivering the eulogy. Interment will be in the Stoney Point Cemetery in Valdasta, Texas. Visitation will be from 5 - 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Blue Ridge Baptist Church in Blue Ridge, Texas.
In lieu of flowers the family request contributions be made to the Blue Ridge Baptist Church or the Stoney Point Cemetery in his name.
