Robert Henley, 1st Earl of Northington PC (c. 1708 - 14 January 1772), was the Lord Chancellor of Great Britain. He was a member of the Whig Party in the parliament and was known for his wit and writing.
Robert Henley was born about 1708, son of Anthony Henley and his wife, Mary Bertie. [1] He was educated at Westminster School, St John's College, Oxford and Inner Temple, being called to the Bar in 1732. [1]
On the 19th of November 1743 he married Jane Huband, daughter of Sir John Huband Bt. of Ipsley in Warwickshire, [1] and his wife, Rhoda Broughton. They were parents of three sons and five daughters.[1]
He was first returned to Parliament as member for Bath in 1747 [2] and again in 1754. [3]
He was the last lord keeper of the great seal and was made chancellor on the accession of George III.
Robert died on the 14th of January 1772. [1]
