iv. Benjamin, "son of Samuel," m. June 30, 1782, he being called "of Smithfield," Ruth Steere, in Gloucester, R. I., dau. of John Steer. (Vital Rec. R. I., Vol. 2 and 3, Providence Co., Gloucester, p. 20.)
He was living in Gloucester, R. I., in 1790, with a family of one male over, and one under, sixteen, and seven females.

Taken from Henry notes: "Benjamin Henry, "Of Smithfield, and "Son of Samuel" was born Dec 25, 1760. Enlisted at Smithfield, RI served as a Private in Col. Archibald Crary's Rhode Island Regt.; Sept. 7, 1779.Entered at Boston, MA, as a marine, under Capt. William Jones, on the U.S. Frigate, Providence under Commodor Abraham Whipple; taken prisoner at Charleston, S.C. May 12, 1780, put on board of Prison Ship and taken to Philadelphia, PA, where he was released and returned to his home in July, 1780; died Oct. 17, 1824, Cambria, NY; US Record Pension Office Washington DC. Placed on Pension Roll Jan 19, 1819, pension commenced April 28, 1819. Pension Roll, 23rd Congress v.2.p.182. (Niagra County, NY)
HENRY Benjamin, Ruth W7715, Navy Srv & RI Line, sol was a son of Samuel Henry & was b 25 Dec 1760, he lived at Smithfield RI at enl & later enl at Boston MA as a Marine in 1779, he moved from Gloucester RI to Granby CT then to Russell MA & about 1811 he moved to Bridgewater in Oneida Co NY then moved to Cambria in Niagara Co NY & he appl there 6 Jul 1818, sol had m Ruth daughter of John Steers on 30 Jun 1782 at Gloucester RI & she was b in Feb 1762, sol d 17 Oct 1824 at Cambria NY, wid appl 26 Jan 1839 at Sherman in Chautauqua Co [NY], sol & wife had 12 children but only the following were named, towit; Welcome or Welcom the oldest child who was b at Gloucester RI & in 1839 was aged 57 & lived at Sherman NY, a son King aged 42 in 1839 also of Sherman NY, a daugher Ruth aged about 15 in 1821, a son James was mentioned, a daughter (not named) was b about 1808, in Feb 1845 the wid Ruth was a res of Groveland in Oakland Co MI & living with a son James Henry.

Of interest: On the previous page of the 1800 census in Granby, CT, Noah Bartlett Jr. and Senior are both listed, but none of them seem to be the age of Charles Bartlett, but the both appear to be from Smithfield, Providence, Rhode Island. SUSPICIOUS??

This old map of Bridgewater shows where lot 93 is, in the yellow area in NW part of the town, not very far from the location of the old Quaker meetinghouse and cemetery... He was not a Quaker, but his daughter Mercy Henry Bartlett joined the Bridgewater meeting by her own request 1819 and was on the member list of 1828, when she took a neutral stand between the Hicksites and Orthodox factions, and her daughter Clarissa Bartlett Hopkins is buried in the Quaker cemetery here:
