John Henry was born either in June 1805 or on 21 January 1803, in Down Patrick, County Down Ireland [1]. The latter date fits with his age at death. The place of birth is in variance with the 'Native Place' of Scotland on his headstone, but the conflict could be more in the place where he married, his four oldest children were born. Also the family migrated from their home in Scotland.
He married Margaret Jemima McSevney on 18 December 1824 in Kirkoswald, Ayrshire, Scotland, and was the father of Agnes Clara (Henry) Spinks, Thomas Henry, Ademia Bryce (Henry) Bradney, John Nelson Henry, Bryce Henry, James Henry, William Henry, Isaac Henry, Hugh Henry, Margaret Mary (Henry) Sinclair, David Henry, Jacob Henry and Agnes (Henry) Rolfe.
John, Margaret, Agnes, Thomas, Ademia, John, Bryce, James and William arrived in Australia aboard the "William Rodgers" on 3 December 1838 and their son Isaac was born at the Quarantine Station on the day of the family's arrival in Sydney.Soon after arriving, they moved to, and settled in, the Kiama area of New South Wales, Australia. On the Passenger List of the "William Rodgers" , John was listed as a Sawyer Carpenter[2].
John died on 18 July 1849 in Jamberoo, New South Wales, Australia[3]and was buried on 1 July 1849 at the Jamberoo Presbyterian Cemetery, Jamberoo, New South Wales, Australia[4][5].
