Biography

Samuel Jr. was the son of Samuel and Elizabeth Hensley, as proven by the will of Samuel Hensley. The first written record of Samuel (Jr) in Virginia records is 1827. Records show that he lived in St. George's Parish Spotsylvania, King George and Orange Co. Virginia. According to Virginia Colonial Pioneers, Samuel Hensley (Jr) served in the Culpepper Co. Militia in 1757. Various records for this line of "Hensley" prior to this date spell the surname in a variety of ways including "Henslee", "Hanesly", and "Hensly." The children children mentioned in his will were:

Catherine "Catey" Hensley, m. Estes ch: Patty Estes
John Hensley,
James Hensley.

Samuel married Martha Snell (daughter of John Snell) on March 3, 1727. They were the parents of at least one daughter, Catherine Hensley, born 1730, in Virginia, who married Thomas Estes, in 1765, in Spotsylvania county, Virginia. Samuel died in 1765, in Spotsylvania. [1] Samuel Hensley's will was dated 7 January 1765 and proved in Spotsylvania County 5 August 1765. His estate in Spotsylvania County was divided between sons John and James the 22nd of December of 1785 after the death of his widow Martha.[2]
