A small barn on a rental property near McConnellsburg was destroyed by fire Tuesday, shortly afternoon. The barn, owned by William Kendall, McConnellsburg, was used as a garage by the Dearl Smalley family, who rent the barn and a frame house on the property. The barn was engulfed in flames when McConnellsburg firemen arrived, but the firefighters were able to prevent the blaze from spreading to the house only a few yards away. Investigation of the cause of the fire is continuing.

Fireworks, contests, raffles, a parade, a dance and the renowned chicken barbecue are all in readiness for this years McConnellsburg Firemens Carnival. The two-week event will kick off July 2.

Fred Dauer and Julie Dworschak stopped in McConnellsburg on Thursday morning en route to Philadelphia along with about 40 other antique vehicle buffs travelling the route of the old Lincoln Highway. Julie was a passenger in Freds classic Indian motorcycle and sidecar.

Firemen and state police stayed busy into the night at an accident scene on PA 16 near Mercersburg Friday, cleaning up in the aftermath of a tractor-trailer wreck, which spilled 46,000 pounds of beer.

Christopher Hyle was graduated from the Pennsylvania, USA State University on May 28, majoring in environmental resource management. He is the son of David P. Hyle of Harrisonville and Mrs. Virginia C. Hyle of Randallstown, Md.

Blair Souders Jr., son of Mrs. Elfriede Souders, McConnellsburg, is pictured in this issue with one of the sand sharks he caught on a recent deep-sea fishing trip off the Delaware coast near Bethany Beach with his uncle, Calvin Souders, and friends of Upton, Pa. The group caught 270 sea bass and six sharks while trolling.

Pleasant Ridge Church of the Nazarene was the setting for the June 18 wedding of Miss Barbara Mellott and Ronald Fagley. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Mellott of Needmore. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Fagley of Harrisonville.

Engagement: Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Fraker of Fort Littleton wish to announce the engagement of their daughter, Dawn Louise, to Rex Shawn Black, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cloyd P. Black of Waterfall.
