Note NI75468Obituary: Joseph Henson
Joseph Henson, 46, an employe of the Owens-Corning plant, died suddenly at 11 p.m. Sunday in the home, 194 North Gay street. Mr. Henson was in his usual health until 7 p.m. Sunday when he became ill. An hour later a physician was summoned and his death before midnight was attributed to a heart attack.
Coming here from Portsmouth less than three years ago, Mr. Henson took employment at Owens-Corning in the laboratory maintenance department and was at work Friday.
He was a veteran of World War I, having enlisted in Columbus, Sept. 6, 1917. He served overseas 13 months with an ambulance corps attatched to the 5th division and saw service in three major engagements in the Meuse-Argonne- St. Mihiel sectors. He was discharged in July, 1919, and re-enlisted. His second discharge came in July the following year.
Mr. Henson was a charter member of Lazelle post, American Legion, Dublin, O., and later became a member of James Dickey Post, Portsmouth; also a member of Koegele Voiture. Forty and Eight,Portsmouth; Peerles lodge, Disabled Veterans, Portsmouth, and River City lodge of Eagles, Portsmouth.
Born in Portsmouth Sept. 22, 1900, he was the son of John H. and the late Mrs. Zella (Southworth) Henson.
Mr. Henson was the father of four sons in the service. Surviving are his widow. Mrs. Wilda Henson, a daughyer, Mrs. Ralph M. Lumbard of Delaware; five sons, Peter S. Henson of the home; Pvt. Maurice S. Henson, U.S. Marines, Cherry Point, N.C., Pvt Andrew W, Henson, student, Army Finance school, St. Louis, Mo., T. Sgt. Jack B. Henson, Ft. Leavenworth, Kans., AMM 3/c Joseph M. Henson, aboard USS Tarawa in the Pacific area; also his father of Columbus; three grandchildren; four brothers, Raymond Henson of Granville, D.C. Henson of Phoenix, Ariz., K.F. Henson of Columbus and G. L. Henson of Los Angeles, Calif.
The body is at the Gutliph & Henderson funeral home. Funeral arrangements have not been made.
