Biography

Benjamin Henson has been estimated in various family trees as born between 1683 and 1710 in Hanover County (now Louisa County), Virginia Colony. No record is known for his birth date or his parents. A birth date of 1700-1710 would be more consistent with his legal records and his children's birth dates, and about 1700 is assumed here.

There are multiple records for a Benjamin Henson/Hinson in Hanover/Louisa County over 1729-1765.^[1] Examples:

• 1729 - Benjamin Henson of Hanover County purchased 400 acres of new land in Hanover County.^[2]
• 1743 - Benjamin Hinson purchased items at an auction in Louisa County; 1743-44 Benjamin Hinson of Goochland and of Louisa had entries in an account book of Hanover County, Virginia.^[3]
• 1765 - Benjamin Henson purchased 150 acres from John Parsons, both of Anson, for 12 pounds proc money. Witnessed by John Hinson and Thomas Dickson. Dated January 30. The land, on Old Mill Creek, was previously granted to William Kemp.^[4]

Benjamin is listed in various family trees as married to Sarah Ann/Ann or to Mourning/Morning. No source is identified for either marriage.

Benjamin is believed to have died in 1766 in Fredericksville Parish, Louisa County, Virginia. No source identified for this, but it is at least consistent with the reduction in records after 1765. (There were likely other Benjamin Hinsons.)

His will, probated in 1770, is supposed to have left his estate to daughter Sarah.
