I remember summer mornings awakening to hear sounds of my grandfather cutting kindling to start a fire in the kitchen wood stove to light the fire to make porridge. Then would be crackling from the fire and sounds of stirring the pot with a wooden spoon. He owned 50 acres on the banks of the Englishman River in Parksville.
