Hepburn-190 and Hepburn-490 are not ready to be merged because: More research needed to determine if the James Hepburn who married Margaret Robeson is the same James Hepburn that married Margaret Camron, as they lived in different places.

On this profile, which Margaret spouse of James is correct and which one is questionable?

Hi Russell, thanks for your messages. As far as I can see, we don't have any specific information about the James Hepburn who married either woman, except the date and place of marriage and dates and locations of birth of the children attached. Ideally, someone may have already, or could download the actual marriage and birth records from Scotlands People, although they may not shed any more light on the situation. Probably it would be helpful to remove Margaret Robeson as the wife of this James Hepburn, and also remove him as the father of her children. That would make it easier to work up both profiles. I didn't hear back from my message to Trace, so I'll do that now. We can still propose a merge of the two profiles later if that seems to be appropriate. Do you have any other thoughts? Gillian

Based upon their being no common spouse and child, I do not believe there should be a merge. My other suggestion would be to add a research note so that there is language to reflect what you did as the bio still indicates a marriage and children with the Margaret you removed.

Hi Trace, do you have any secondary sources which would explain why this James Hepburn moved around so much and/or actual copies of the marriage record or baptism records which confirm he is the same person who married both wives. Thanks so much!
