Biography

John was born between 1598-1600 his father's house, Athelstaneford, Haddingtonshire. He was founder and first colonel of the Royal Scots Regiment.[1] He subsequently became a Marshal of France.

In the National Archives of Scotland (GD302/73) is Correspondence and other papers concerning 'Colonel Hebron' (Sir John Hepburn), Colonel in the French army in the regiment that later became the Royal Scots (killed at siege of Saverne, 1635). 28 items.n/d.
