Biography

"Sir Thomas Morgan... married Cecelia, daughter of Sir George Herbert of Swansea, and died on the 5th June, 1565. His lady survived him upwards of 34 years, and died on 27th February, 1599 old style, aged 80. She was buried at Itton, where a long inscription was put up to her memory by her third son George, and daughter Florence. ... Here the lady is called "Dame Cecelia Herbert, daughter of Sir George Herbert of Swansea, Knight, wife and lady to Sir Thomas Morgan of Pencoyd, Knight, mother to Sir William Morgan Knight, to Henry George and Florence, lived four-score years, deceased XXVII day of February, 1599."^[1]

Imaginary son James

It has been claimed that Thomas Morgan and his wife Cecelia Herbert were the parents of James Morgan, but this is contrary to Cecelia's burial inscription (which doesn't name a son James). In addition, Thomas's granddaughter Ann (daughter of his son Henry) eventually inherited his estate, instead of James Morgan or James's son Evan.
