Biography

As the parentage given here contradicts the known facts, this profile has been detached as a son of Philip Herbert and Susan de Vere.

NOTE: This person might be named Thomas.

NOTE: One family tree at http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/p/a/y/John-N-Payton/WEBSITE-0001/UHP-1728.html has the father of Walter Herbert as Thomas Herbert. This correlates with a birth location of South Gwent Monmouthshire.

NOTE: Website http://www.spaldinggenealogy.com/jherbert.htm provides some citation to evidence that the connection of the many-named husband of Bridget and Walter (grandson of Earl of Pembroke) was a theory and is all but disproved.

Any (supported) information to verify or refute the details presented here is most welcome.

Any unsupported clues or leads also appreciated.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Walter by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Walter:

What evidence based on surviving contemporary artifacts (primary sources) proves this person ever existed; and travelled to the colonies, for whatever reason; and died in New Amsterdam / New York during the Anglo-Ductch wars?

If this person ever existed, his brother in law was one of the wealthiest men in the British world at the time, married to this (purported) Walter/Thomas profile's (real) sister, Anna Sophie:

For example, here is that Herbert-Dormer couple's son, who spoke in Parliament about the perils of impeachment:

In comparison, see the connected-mother of this profile's connected-children, Bridget Barnes-825, who is not this Walter's connected-wife, rather she is presently connected to his alleged brother Richard:

See Capt. Richard Herbert's profile for the warning:

This profile lacks source information. Please add sources that support the facts. The parents listed for this individual are speculative and may not be based on sound genealogical research. Sources to prove or disprove this ancestry are needed. Please contact the Profile Manager or leave information on the bulletin board.

Given that,

I suggest we disconnect this entire tree of American colonists from the British nobility, until or unless evidence can be provided. In the meantime, WikiTree appears to be publishing wishful thinking absent genealogical evidence.

Respectfully,
