Biography

Elizabeth was born in 1833 & christened 04 Aug 1833 Parish of Liff-Benvie. She is the daughter of Archibald Herd & Elizabeth (Duncan-Thomson) Herd. Much time was spent trying to find out about her by Susan Robatille & me. Susan found out about her death while scrolling through the old deaths at Tewskbury & it did show both parents listed as Archibald Herd & Elizabeth Duncan Herd. She died destitute after suffering a stroke. Funny as she had a few relatives in Canada such as my G. Grandfather (a nephew to her).

• • • Her second name was in honour of the Clayhills family in Invergowrie or Canroustie Scotland, as the following shows:

"In loving memory of Captain George Clayhills, DSO, 1st Battalion East Lancashire Regiment, fourth son of Thomas Clayhills of Invergowrie, killed in action 2nd Nov. 1914 in Belgium, North of Armentieres at the Battle of Ypres & to the revered memory of Alexander Clayhills, ESO of Invergowrie born 14th January, 1796, died 18th June 1865" '***

She married John Kerr WEIR 10 July 1855 (1865???) in Kingston Canada West. (cannot find a marriage record) so maybe she had a previous marriage? She returned to Scotland to have her daughter at her parents home in Carnoustie, Scotland, a daughter Elizabeth Duncan WEIR. Her birth certificate shows her father is absent (gives their marriage date) which is strange & also shows him as a ships carpenter-joiner plus gives the mother second forename as Clayhills. Elizabeth's Herd was christened as Elizabeth "Hunter" Herd on Family Search which IS NOT true. Someone has the wrong Elizabeth. They had a second child George M. WEIR born Nov 1868 in Manhatten, NY, NY. US
