Research Notes

FSID: REFN: 9J8N-KW

If he was born in England, he does not appear to be related to the other Herons, who share his surname. The brothers Andrew Heron (1763-1846) and Samuel (1770-1817) emigrated from Ireland.

He served 10 yrs. in the 33rd Regiment of Foot called the Queens Rangers

He came to York with Governor Simcoe (Mrs. Simcoe's diary, family name listed as "Herring").

He served in the war of 1812-14 under Capt. Samuel Ridout, 3rd regiment of York. Was Heron family well-to-do?

His land appears on a North York Map

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Richard by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Richard:

Hi Fred, I got a message saying you added more info on Richards War of 1812 service records. I would love a copy of these and can't seem to find it. I do not know if the other Heron's were related and really would appreciate it if you could send to me directly. [email address removed]

Richard is my great x 5 grandfather. I can't access or see anything from Ancestry.

Added more War of 1812 militia service records. Was Richard related to Lieut. Samuel Heron and Private Patrick Heron who served in the same regiment?

I have added information to this profile as part of the wikitree Upper Canada War of 1812 Project and linked it to the project pages. I am not related to this family.

Please email me, if you would like more information on this family, to look at my source documents, or have questions about this war and other veterans and their families.

I am currently reviewing the 3rd York Militia documents online and will probably be adding more information to this profile in the coming year.

Interestingly, Richard married wives with the surnames Hill and Henry and served in the militia with men with the same surnames.
