Biography

Richard Miles Heron was born November 7, 1852 in Maxwell, Ontario, Canada to Thomas Heron and Lavinia Lounc. In 1861, Richard lived in Osprey, Grey, Ontario with his parents and siblings. ^[1]

In 1871, Richard, age 18, resided in Osprey, South Grey, Ontario with his parents and eight siblings. His nationality was English (although his mother, Lavinia, was born in Ireland) and religion Wesleyan Methodist. ^[2]

Richard married Helen Scott Blacker Hamlin on July 7, 1880 in Maxwell, Grey, Ontario. ^[3] In 1881, Richard and Helen (Nellie) and their 7-month-old son, Thomas Miles, lived in Osprey, Grey East, Ontario. They were Methodists. Richard was employed as a salesman. ^{[4] [5]}

They had eight children -Thomas, William, Richard, Latham, Charles, Helen, Victoria, and Eugene, all born in Ontario. ^{[6] [7] [8] [9]} Richard and Helen's daughter, Helen, died in 1900 at the age of 7. Eugene, the youngest, only appears in the 1905 New York census record as a 6-year-old, and is presumed to have died before 1910. ^[10]

On April 24, 1902, Richard and his family immigrated to the United States, arriving and settling in Buffalo, Erie New York. ^[11]

In 1910, Richard and Helen, lived on Vermont Street in Buffalo, with their three youngest offspring - Latham, Charles and Victoria. Richard was a retired carpenter. Latham was employed as a conductor, and Charles was a metal work helper. ^[12]

In 1915, Richard, age 62, was head of household in Buffalo Ward 21. ^[13]

In 1920, Richard and Helen lived in Buffalo Ward 22. Their household included their sons, William and Charles; Charles' wife (married during WWI in France), and daughter, Victoria. All three adult children were employed - William was a factory foreman; Charles was a trainman for the railroad; and Victoria was a bookkeeper. ^[14]

In the early 1920s, Richard and Helen moved to south of Buffalo in rural New Albion, Cattaraugus, New York to live with their son, Latham and his family. Richard's wife, Helen, died on April 17, 1923 in New Albion. ^{[15] [16] [17]}

Richard died on May 7, 1934 in Dayton, Cattaraugus, New York and was buried in Tug Hill Cemetery in New Albion, Cattaraugus, New York with his wife. ^{[18] [19]}
