Biography

David Herries is a member of Herries Clan.

David was the son of John Herries and Egidia Somervile.^[1] The precise date of David's birth is not known, but he was not yet 25 in 1459, when a curator was appointed for his insane father. As David was knighted before August 21, 1463, and appointed his father's curator in 1471, he was probably born about 1440-3.

On July 20, 1459, he, along with Margaret, daughter of Sir Robert Crichton, "and the lawful heirs betwixt them," received a grant of lands, so he probably married her about that time. They had issue:

1. Herbert, his heir, Ist Lord Herries^[1][2]

David himself became incompetent, and he was removed as his father's curator in 1478.

In 1483, David was so incompetent that curators were appointed for him. He was living on August 26, 1495.
