Biography

Mary (Hershey) Vance was born in Pennsylvania.

Mary was born February 23, 1829 in Carlisle, Cumberland, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth (Klepper) Hershe.

She married Richard Irvin Vance on March 18, 1851 in Muscatine, Muscatine, Iowa. They had seven children together.

She passed away May 4, 1907 in Sweetland Township, Muscatine, Iowa. Services were held at her home on May 7, 1907 and she was buried in the Greenwood Cemetery located in Muscatine, Muscatine, Iowa.

<Research Note: Her family maiden name has been spelled differently on various records. Her parents gravestones are spelled "Hershe", which is the same spelling as on her marriage record. However, other sources use the spelling "Hershey".>
