Nicholas Hewitt was born ca. 1751 in Berks County, Pennsylvania[1] to Franz Carl Hujett and Maria Gertraud Quattlebaum.[2][3]
He married Elizabeth Gerhart sometime between 1770 and 1780.[3][4] They lived in West, Huntingdon, Pennsylvania from 1800 through 1830.[5][6][7]
"Private Nicholas Huet was a member of Captain Adam Ott's Company of Selected Militia in Washington County, Maryland. (Ott's Company was reportedly at Valley Forge with Washington.)" During that time, he also served with General Washing during the winter of 1777-8 at Valley Forge, Chester County, Pennyslvania.[8]
Nicholas died on 30 May 1835 in Huntingdon, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania.[1] and is buried in Manor Hill Presbyterian Cemetery in Manor Hill, Shaver's Creek Valley, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania.[4][3]

The last Will and Testament of Nicholas Hewit of West township in the county of Huntingdon. I Nicholas Hewit considering the uncertainty of this mortal life and being of sound mind and memory (blessed ? be the Almighty for the same) do make and publish this my last Will and Testament in manner following (that is to say) first I do order that all my real estate be sold in one year after my decease, first I do bequeath unto my loving wife Elizabeth Hewit, the interest of the one third of all my real estate during her natural life, together with one horse, two cows, six sheep, three beds and bedding, one eight day clock, six chairs, one stove, one table, one cupboard, one large case of drawers, together will all the kitchen furniture she may see proper to keep. I do order the remainder of my personal property to be appraised and sold immediately after my decease. I give and bequeath unto my son David Hewit, the one twelfth part of all my real and personal estate. To my son Jacob Hewit, one twelfth part, to be left in the hands of my son-in-law John Lightner for his support. To Christian Hewit, Henry Hewit, Peter Hewit, Daniel Hewit, and my daughter Catharine Ebberly each one twelfth part. To the heirs of my daughters Mary Armitage and Elizabeth Lightner dec’d one twelfth each. To my son John Hewit, and my daughter Sophia Roller and to my daughter Margaret Lightner one twelfth part each. I do appoint my sons Daniel and John Hewit sole executors of this my last Will and Testament whom I also authorise to pay all my just debts. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the fourteenth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty two.
