The Times (Streator, Illinois), 21 Dec 1959, page 23 - Former Minonk Man Found Dead at Peoria - Ernest Hewitt, Jr, 62, a brother of William Hewitt of Minonk, was found dead in his apartment in Peoria Sunday by his nephew, James Hewitt, who lives nearby. He is believed to have been dead for several hours. While there was no evidence of foul play, Peoria County Coroner, Horace Payton, is conducting an investigation. Ernest was born 17 May 1897, in Minonk, the son of Ernest and Anna (Nelson) Hewitt. He never married and resided in Peoria for about 10 years.
