John Ryland Hicklin, Jr. known as Jack to his friends and family, was born in Lexington, MO on January 21, 1926. He grew up at the family homestead, Hicklin Hearthstone, and attended the Hicklin School and Lexington High School. During WWII, Jack served a tour of duty with the Navy. After the war, he attended college in St. Petersburg, FL, where he met his future bride to be, Alma Mae Lowe. They entered into a long and loving marriage on December 24, 1948. They celebrated their Golden Anniversary in 1998.
Jack joined Retail Credit Company (nka Equifax), in 1952, starting in the Kansas City office. He held various sales, marketing and management positions and most importantly, made many lifelong friends. Over the years, his career led he and his family to Columbus, OH, Westchester County, NY and Atlanta, GA. Her retired in 1988, ending a 36 year long career.
Jack was a lifelong member of and contributor to, the Methodist Church. He was also an ardent member of the Studebaker Driver's club and the Avanti Owner's Club. His other passions included music, reading, Harley Davidson motorcycles, and anything mechanical.
Upon his death on May 28, 2000, Jack was survived by his wife Alma, sons Jack III, Christopher, Clayton and daughter Marcia. His warmth, kindness, and sense of humour will be greatly missed by all.
