The following biography was produced by Howard Hickman, a long time researcher of the Hickman families. [1] [2]
Another accounting (with Howard Hickman collaboration) was done by Paul Harrop [3] at World Connect
Researchers must not neglect a look at the WikiTree profile for Ulrich Hagman as Hagman-18 That biography tells of family migrating from Switzerland to the Palatinate. Ulrich's descendant Jacob Hockman was first husband of Mary Funk who married a Crable. Descendants lived not far from Charles Hickman and some descendants even signed the petition for Westsylvania.
CHARLES HICKMAN
Charles Hickman received a Virginia land grant in present day Fayette County, PA., in 1773. There are numerous tax, court, and land records which all placed Charles in present day Menallen and German Townships, Fayette County from 1772 until 1803, when he probably died. He was appointed administrator of several estates. His occupation is first listed as carpenter and later as physician. He is reported to be the first physician of the village of New Salem.
Two sources show that his daughter was born about 1760 in Funkstown, near Hagerstown Maryland, and thus Charles lived in that area prior to migrating to Fayette Co, PA.
His children: (per a Breckenridge Co, KY Deed)
Abraham Hickman (see following description)
Jonathan Hickman (see following description)
Solomon Hickman (see following description)
Sally married John Crabb
Elizabeth married Solomon Miller
Mary married Jonathan Miller
Rebecca (died 1801-8) married Daniel Arnold
