Biography

Birth and Parents

Susannah Hickman was born in Culpeper, Virginia about 1745. [1]

Susannah was born sometime around 1745, the daughter of James Hickman and Hannah Lewis.[2]

Marriage

She married James Browning, who was aborn about 1745 and died, probably in Clark County, Kentucky, about 1812.[1]

She married James Browning (although the date of their marriage is uncertain it was sometime before 1763 when their eldest son Caleb was born).

Bk HH, p212-5, names Caleb & Anna Browning, Toliver & Polly Browning, of Pendleton Co., KY, James & Jane Browning of Clark Co., KY, Micajah & Sally Browning of Mason Co., KY, Robert & Anna Browning Overall of Bullitt Co., KY, appoints Isaac Farrow of Mont. Co., KY, Atty, to transact sale in VA, 178 acres, land of Mother (Susanna Hickman Browning) given to her by her father, James Hickman.[3]

Bk HH p219 heirs of Susanna Browning to Bird Eastham, wr. Aug 20, 1816, sell 70 acres, part of a Tract to Susanna from her father, James Hickman. (This is confusing, also states from Martha Tannahill, Maybe indicating Martha is a close relative??) done through Atty. Isaac Farrow[3]

Bk HH 221 heirs of Susanna to Martha Tannahill, 70 ac, release and give to her through Atty. Isaac Farrow, part of land given to Susanna by her father [3]

Bk SS p188, wr. Mar 7, 1825, rec. Oct 31, 1825, heirs of Susanna Browning, dec., James, Caleb, Micajah, Anna, Polly, by Atty. Isaac Farrow, land in Culpeper Co., VA, to record a deed of conveyance by Martha Tannahill to Vincent Corder for $300, 70 acres[3]

Death

She died in Harrison County, Kentucky about 1815. [1]

Susannah Browning died before 1 May 1816, when her children sold the land which she had inherited from her father.[4]

[Note: after Susannah (Hickman) Browning died, her heirs sold the property she had inherited in Culpeper County, Virginia from her father.
