There has been a great deal of controversy from whence came William Hickocks, (Hickok, Hickox, Hicock), Who died in Farmington, Connecticut, soon after 1645, Leaving a Widow, Elizabeth, and two young sons. It is one of the oldest towns in England. High peak old english style houses line its narrow streets. It is the largest town in the district. William Hickok left England just a few years befor civil war broke out in 1645. Embarked on the Plaine Joan which sailed from London for the Northern contenent on May 15, 1635. Recorded in Newhaven, Moved to Hartford in 1643, settling in Farmington, Connecticut where he was one of the original settlers. After a Hard life as a farmer he died about 1645, leaving a widow Elizabeth and two sons, Samuel and Joseph. Both sons were born in Farmington, Elizabeth later remarried to a William Adams in 1648. A Find a Grave profile has pictures taken from Hickok genealogy. There’s also another one that says the same as above posters.

Find-a-grave is not a legitimate source.

I understand that. However if you look at the photographs that are in it you will see that those are. Two are from the book about the Hickoks. The older one looks as if it’s from North American Histories. (Not positive on that )

The pages from the books I would consider creditable. I also believe the plain Joanne story came from ancestry.

I’ve also found this. It has citations as well. v.

William Hyccocks, baptised 10/12/1609, Holy Trinity, Stratford-upon-Avon, Co Warwickshire, England.[44,88] Died 1627 & buried 18/5/1627, Holy Trinity, Stratford-upon-Avon, Co Warwickshire, England (s/o Elizabeth Wheeler - his mother remarried).[46] {Some genealogies (eg [88]) claim William emigrated to the USA & died 1645, Farmington, Hartford Co, Connecticut, USA, however this conflicts with the burial record of "William Hiccock s/o Elizabeth Wheeler".[46] A more recent study on the Farmington, USA, Hickocks found that William of Farmington was instead the s/o either Robert or Edward & not part of this family group.[11]} https://roots-boots.net/ft/hiccox.html

C. N. Hickok the author of the Hickok Genealogy. 1938. Clearly states that William Hickocks who sailed from London on the 'Plaine Joanne' in 1635 was not the son of Thomas Hickox and Elizabeth Sturling, that that William died and was buried in 1627, nine years before the arrival of William Hickocks to America.

As far as I can see, William's origin is unknown.

There is no evidence that the William Hitchcock who sailed on the "Plain Joan" bound for Virginia in 1635 is the same person as William Hickock/Hickox of Farmington, Connecticut. Nor is there any evidence of the marriage of William Hickock/HIckox to Elizabeth Upson in England. Please delete this information until documentation is found for William's origin.

Wrong. William Hickocks did indeed land in CT and not in Virginia and he arrived as a bachelor. A common ploy used in those days was to pay the Captain under the table to put settlers in NE and not in VI. If you check other passengers on the manifest of the Plaine Joane they also are in CT and not in Virginia. After William's death his widow Elizabeth (best evidence is her last name is Chole/Cole who was a maid servant for a CT Doctor and they married in CT and not in England) re-married an Adams and had children by him. The will in CT names step sons Samuel and Joseph Heacocks as well as the Adams children. Sons Samuel and Joseph both lived and flourished in CT as well as their families and their progeny. Son Samuel married a Hannah Upson, daughter of Thomas Upson and wife Elizabeth Fuller. Recent research suggests that Williams father in England may have been Robert.

Hickox-256 and Hickox-39 appear to represent the same person because: These look to be duplicate profiles
Hickock-29 and Hickcox-16 appear to represent the same person because: They have the same birth locale and close to same birth and death date. I believe these are the same person and creating a merge will help merge the exact dates and help clean up our tree. I believe that hickcox-16 has the missing information to hickock-29
