Biography
William Hicks performed Patriotic Service in Virginia in the American Revolution.
William Randolph Hicks' date of birth is unknown. DAR records show him born "ante 1758," [1] and some other unsourced genealogies show "about 1760." He was credited with supporting the American Revolution by furnishing supplies. [1]
William married Mary Elizabeth Harris, [1][2] and their children mentioned in his will were:
Author William E. Railey shows an 1810 Census record entry in Woodford County, Kentucky for William Hicks as head of a household of nine, with 21 enslaved African Americans, [2] which tracks with the list of children from his will, but no 1810 Census record for him could be found in FamilySearch.org.
An unsourced William Hicks - Elizabeth Harris family tree (see photo attached to this profile) shows a date of 1780 in the center circle, presumably the year of their marriage, [5] but another genealogy shows a marriage date of 11 May 1778, citing Marriages of Goochland County, Virginia, 1733-1815.[6]
William passed away in 1812 at Woodford County. [1][7]
Research Notes
Based on a copy of the inventory of his estate, [8] William Hicks was a man of substance.
This William may have had brothers Harris, John, and Moses. [9]
Mary Elizabeth Harris is listed as daughter of Harrison Harris in Marriages of Goochland County, Virginia, 1733-1815. Witness were Moses Hicks and William Adams. Mary Hicks given consent for William Hicks. P. 21. Perhaps Mary Hicks was William Hicks's mother.
Woodford County, Kentucky, Wills and Estates 1789-1815: Records a Harris Hicks, dated 16 May 1806 and lists wife as Caty, brothers John Hicks, William Hicks, and Moses Hicks. Seems if Harris Hicks name, perhaps this may have been a "cousins" marriage.
There is a William Hicks noted in Genealogies of Kentucky Families, Filson Club Quarterly, as having left Rutherford County, North Carolina in Feb. 1755 with a group to explore a county by the name of "Leowvisay" with Daniel Boone, but there are no records to connect that William Hicks with this one.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:
William Hicks' pension application in Goochland County has him living in 1829... in Goochland County. Information in the application indicates birth about 1744 (37 in 1781; 85 in 1829).
See http://revwarapps.org/s7016.pdf
edit - application has his name as Hicks & I'd originally typed Hix.
