Thomas Hicks II was born between 1677 and 1680, the son of Thomas & Mary (Albro) Hicks.

Marriage

Thomas married Ann Clark, daughter of Latham & Hannah (Wilbore) Clark, on 22 Sep 1704 at Portsmouth, Newport, RI. [1] Their known children were

Death

Thomas passed away 20 Nov 1759 in Portsmouth, Newport, RI.[2] Thomas Hicks of Portsmouth, yeoman, made his will on 18 September 1759, and it was proved 10 December 1759.[3] It names

  • sons Thomas Hicks, Benjamin Hicks, and John Hicks
  • daughter Mary Hathaway
  • enslaved "negro" Betty
  • daughters Margaret Akin and Ann Parker
  • enslaved "negro" boy and girl Domini and Belle
  • daughter Elizabeth Smith, granted the abovenamed enslaved individuals as well as the household goods Thomas had upon the death of his first wife
  • grandsons Thomas Hicks and Clarke and granddaughter Ann, all children of his son Thomas
  • grandson Thomas and granddaughter Ann, children of his son Weston
  • grandson Thomas, son of his son John

Slaves

In his will are named Betty, Domini, Belle, and Cate (see above). In the 1730 census at Portsmouth, his household comprised 10 white individuals and 8 black individuals, so he may have had more enslaved individuals during his life than those indicated in his will.
