Theodocia (Docia) Elizabeth Hicks was born on September 22, 1866.[1] She was the daughter of John M. Hicks and Jane Scott. She was raised on the family farm in Midgic, New Brunswick.
In 1891, Docia was living with her parents and siblings on the farm. George Fillmore was lodging with the family and working as a labourer. On January 20, 1892, Docia and George were married.[2] They settled near Docia's parents.
Docia and George adopted William Rhodes, who arrived in Canada from England in 1910. William was one of the "Middlemore Home Children" who were sent from Birmingham, England to the Maritime Provinces.[3]
In 1921, Docia, George and William were living in Midgic, with Docia's widowed mother, Jane. In 1931 they were living in Sackville.
Docia died on June 8, 1942 in Sackville.[4] She was 75.
