Biography

Due to their ages when they married, Burgess and Nancy probably did not have any children. Nancy's youngest children were in their teens. The 1870 census has Nancy as 53. She had not had a viable pregnancy producing a live birth for about 6 years at the time of her second marriage to Burgess Jester in 1861, and there are no other children other then her two youngest and Burgess' youngest, Mary Jamima were at home in 1870.

Maiden name gathered from daughter's death certificate "Louisiana Deaths, 1850-1875, 1894-1960," May Frances Gester, 15 Jun 1922; Springhill, Webster, Louisiana, certificate number 11074,[1] Mary Frances Teague m. Oliver W. Jester, nephew to Burgess Jester.

There is a war story to this... Gester is a common misspelling for Jester.
May probably because the indexer couldn't read the writing.
Frances... Known middle name for Mary Frances.
Family did live in Webster Parish. And known residence of Mary Frances' daughter, Theodosia aka Dosie.
League... back when Ancestry was FREE... (remember those days?) the indexers had the Union Co AR Teagues indexed as League.
Hicks... absolutely no idea if this is accurate or not, there was a John Hicks living nearby in 1850 and his children did marry into the Teagues.

Research Notes 1

There is controversy over her maiden name being Thompson or Hicks. I made my decision based on her daughter's, Mary Frances Teague Jester, death certificate. Other trees on other sites base this on a marriage in Gilmer Co., GA 25 Jul 1850. The problem with this marriage is that James and Nancy are still in Gilmer County when this James and Nancy are in Arkansas. Their ages are different. Another researcher says she read numerous documents that say she is Thompson. And no one has produced those documents in any manner. And this is further complicated with the DC of Julia Teague, b. AR 1845 d. 1921 LA whose father Jim Tigue mother Nancy Robertson.

Then we have the census which shows that James and family have been in AR since at least 1844, by the births of their children. That begs the question that if James was widowed before 1850, why go to GA to marry when there were probably numerous available women in Arkansas.

Could she have filed a claim on her son Thomas' pay if she had been a step-mother?

Research Notes 2

Numerous trees have two Nancy Jesters confused. Nancy Hicks Teague Jester Nancy HIcks Jester died in Lafayette County Oct 1879 nearly 10 years younger then Nancy Neal Jester Williams is 79 years old on the 1880. Sorry Folks, they are two different people, and the only things they have in common is Tennessee and Arkansas and both are in different counties. The 1870 census proves they are two different people.
