Wiley Hicks was born in Tennesse circa 1830. He married Sarah J. Lafferry a few years before the 1850 census which shows Sarah, Wiley and their first daughter living with her brother James Laferry. Sarah and Wiley Hicks will relocate to Arkansas in the same time frame as her brothers James and John Lafferry.
By 1860, Sarah and Wiley Hicks are living in Eagle, Pulaski County Arkansas along with their five children; Mary A. (b 1850), William (b 1853), Julia A (b. 1855), Lenora M. (b 1857) and Frances B. (b 1859).
During the Civil War Wiley fought for the Confederate States in Carlton's Regiment: This CSA regiment organized with four companies in the summer of 1864. HICKS, WILEY Pvt Gave oath at Pine Bluff, AR 14 May 1865. Age 32, ht 5' 9", farmer, eyes blue, hair lt, complx dark. [1]
In May 1870, Wiley Hicks dies. The U.S. Federal Mortality Schedule states Wiley Hicks died due to a fall from a horse, however this statement is crossed out and overwritten with "homicide".
