Biography

Dorrien Hicks, or Jack as he was known in Australia, was born in St Agnes, Scilly Islands, England about 1895.

Jack married Elsie May Davis at her father's farm in Lower Light on December 11, 1918^[1][2] and they had 2 children, Rachel and Dorothy.

They moved to Pinnaroo where she died in 1923. After she died, he moved his family back to Lower Light and lived with Elsie's brother, Stanley Davis, his wife, Elsie (nee Pratt) and their family on the farm "Riverside". He lived in the original farm house which was quite small. He then married Elsie Pratt's sister, Bertha Pratt in Maughan Methodist Church in Adelaide on April 6th,1927^[3].

Jack and Bertha didn't have any children and raised Jack's 2 daughters. Jack and Bertha (Aunty Bert) retired in Gawler. Aunty Bert broke her hip and never recovered, passing away in 1964. He died at a nursing home in Gawler in 1981 aged 85^[4].
