Biography

Michael Hiestand was born about 1820;^[1] he was the son of Jacob Hiestand and Susanna Andrix.^[2][3]

In 1830,^[2] Michael Hiestand's father, Jacob Hiestand, was enumerated in the federal census, and he was living in Liberty Township, Fairfield County, Ohio as head of household, which included [possible names]: a) males - 1 (< 5), 2 (10 - 14) [John & Michael HIestand], 1 (30 - 39) [Jacob Hiestand]; b) females - 2 (< 5) [Susan & Elizabeth Hiestand], 2 (5 - 9) [Barbara & Catherine Hiestand], 1 (30 - 39) [Susan Hiestand].

On 12 Nov 1840 in Fairfield County, Ohio,^[4] Michael Heistand [sic] married Catherine Gearhart.

In 1850,^[1] Michael Heaston [sic] (age 30, born Ohio) was living in Liberty Township, Fairfield County, Ohio as head of household with his wife, Catherine Heaston [sic] (age 30, born Ohio), with their Heaston [sic] children, born Ohio (age, sex): i) Emily (9, F), ii) Jacob (8, M), iii) John (5, M), iv) Daniel (2, M). In 1860,^[5] Michael Hiestand (age 40, born Ohio) was living in Greenfield Township, Fairfield County, Ohio as head of household with his wife, Catherine Hiestand (age 45 [sic], born Ohio), with their Hiestand children, born Ohio (age, sex): i) Emily (18, F), ii) Jacob (16, M), iii) John (15, M), iv) Daniel (14, M), v) Rebecca (12, F). Michael's occupation was a mechanic.

On 20 Nov 1865 in Liberty Township, Fairfield County, Ohio,^[3] Michael Hiestand's father, Jacob Hiestand, signed his last will and testament. In Jacob's will, he explicitly listed Michael Hiestand as his son.
