Biography

Gideon Hiestand was born 20 Aug 1840 in Ohio;^[1][2] he was the son of Joseph Hiestand and Catherine Funkhouser.^[3]

In 1850,^[3] Gideon Heaston [sic] (age 9, born Ohio) was living in Liberty Township, Fairfield County, Ohio in the household of his mother, Catherine Heaston [sic] (age 50, born Virginia), with his Heaston [sic] siblings, born Ohio (age, sex): i) Elizabeth (24, F), ii) Joseph (23, M), iii) Noah (20, M), iv) Catherine (18, F), v) Jacob (15, M), vi) Lydia (13, F), viii) Amos (7, M); also in the household was, ix) Abraham Cochenhour (age 22, born Ohio), x) Sophia Heaston (age 1, born Ohio). Catherine had no occupation listed; Joseph & Jacob were farmers. Abraham was a carpenter.
