Biography

Gideon Hiestand was born 20 Aug 1840 in Ohio;[1][2] he was the son of Joseph Hiestand and Catherine Funkhouser.[3]

In 1850,[3] Gideon Heaston [sic] (age 9, born Ohio) was living in Liberty Township, Fairfield County, Ohio in the household of his mother, Catherine Heaston [sic] (age 50, born Virginia), with his Heaston [sic] siblings, born Ohio (age, sex): i) Elizabeth (24, F), ii) Joseph (23, M), iii) Noah (20, M), iv) Catherine (18, F), v) Jacob (15, M), vi) Lydia (13, F), viii) Amos (7, M); also in the household was, ix) Abraham Cochenhour (age 22, born Ohio), x) Sophia Heaston (age 1, born Ohio). Catherine had no occupation listed; Joseph & Jacob were farmers. Abraham was a carpenter.

In 1900,[2] Gideon Hiestand (age 59, single, born Aug 1840 in Ohio) was living in Rawson Village, Union Township, Hancock County, Ohio in the household of his brother, Amos Hiestand (age 55, born May 1845 in Ohio), with Amos' wife of 34 years, Elizabeth Hiestand (age 54, born Sep 1846 in Ohio), with their Hiestand children, born Ohio (age, sex): i) Joseph F. (27, M), ii) Asa J. (20, M), iii) Noah A. (16, M), iv) Annie May (21, F), v) Pearl E. (13, M; also in the household were 2 boarders. Amos' occupation was a laborer. Elizabeth had born 10 children, 8 of whom were currently living.

Gideon Hiestand died on 11 Oct 1911 in the Hancock County Infirmary, Liberty Township, Hancock County, Ohio,[1] and he was buried in the Tawa Cemetery, Benton Ridge, Hancock County, Ohio, USA.[4] The cause of death was Bright's Disease, with contributing factors of exposure and irregular habits. Gideon was born on 20 Aug 1830 [sic] in Ohio; his parents were Joseph Hiestand and Catherine Funkhouser. Gideon's usual occupation had been a shoemaker. Gideon was single. The informant for the death certificate was Amos Hiestand of Rawson, Ohio.
