John and Jacob Hiestand came from the Palatinate in the ship Friendship of Bristol, John Davis, Master, from Rotterdam, June 20, 1727. They were brothers and settled o the east side of the Big Chickies, adjoining the lands of the Scotts, below Peden's old tavern.
John seems to have finally settled in the Manor, where he died April 28, 1784, leaving one son, Henry and five daughters, Magdalena, Elizabeth, Mary, Catharine and Anna; Barbara, who was married, died before her father's death. Henry got the farm of 150 acres. He was the paternal ancestor of all the Donegal and Manor Hiestand's of the present day.
Jacob Hiestand remained where he first settled, along Chickies Creek; he died April 13, 1772 leaving a widow Elizabeth and sons, Abraham, Jacob and Peter; his daughter Elizabeth married Mr Forry; Mary to Mr Erisman; Catharine probably married a son of Andrew Hershey, who owned and adjoining farm, and was in connection with Christian Swahr; his executors. Abraham and Jacob, got farms along Big Chickies and Peter got a farm along Little chickies. The Hempfield and York County Hiestand's are a branch of this family.
