Biography

John Wesley Hiestand was born on 14 Sep 1844 in Ohio;[1] he was the son of Michael Hiestand and Catherine Gierhart.[2][1]

In 1850,[2] John Heaston [sic] (age 5, born Ohio) was living in Liberty Township, Fairfield County, Ohio in the household of his father, Michael Heaston [sic] (age 30, born Ohio), with his mother, Catherine Heaston [sic] (age 30, born Ohio), and with his Heaston [sic] siblings, born Ohio (age, sex): i) Emily (9, F), ii) Jacob (8, M), iv) Daniel (2, M). Michael's occupation was a carpenter.

In 1860,[3] John Hiestand (age 15, born Ohio) was living in Greenfield Township, Fairfield County, Ohio in the household of his father, Michael Hiestand (age 40, born Ohio), with his mother, Catherine Hiestand (age 45 [sic], born Ohio), with his Hiestand siblings, born Ohio (age, sex): i) Emily (18, F), ii) Jacob (16, M), iv) Daniel (14, M), v) Rebecca (12, F). Michael's occupation was a mechanic.

On 27 Oct 1866 in Jay County, Indiana,[4] John W. Hiestand married Gennette Stephens.

In 1870,[5] John W. Heistand (age 24, born Ohio) was living in Wabash Township, Jay County, Indiana as head of household with his wife, Jenetta Heistand (age 18, born Indiana), with their daughter, Ida Heistand (age 1, born Indiana). John's occupation was a farm laborer.

In 1880,[6] John Hiestand (age 36, born Ohio) was living in Wabash Township, Jay County, Indiana as head of household with his wife, Annette [sic] Hiestand (age 29, born Indiana), and their Hiestand children, born Indiana (age, sex): i) Ida (10, F), ii) Nora (5, F), iii) Anna (2, F); also in the household was his widowed mother-in-law, Sophia Stephens (age 68, born Massachusetts). John's occupation was a farmer.

On 31 May 1882 in St. Anthony, Mercer County, Ohio,[7] Mary Emily Jennette Stephens (age 31), wife of John Wesley Heistand (age 38), gave birth to a daughter, Luella Pearl Heistand.

In 1900,[8] John W. Heistand (age 56, born Sep 1844 in Ohio) was living in Nottingham Township, Wells County, Indiana as head of household with his wife of 33 years, Mary E. Heistand (age 49, born Mary 1851 in Indiana), and their Heistand children, born Indiana except as noted (age, sex): i) Pearl L. (18, F, Ohio), ii) Laura M. (15, F), iii) John F. (13, M), iv) William M. (11, M), v) Harry H. (9, M). John's occupation was a farmer. Mary had born 10 children, 7 of whom were currently living.

In 1910,[9] John W. Hiestand (age 65, born Ohio) was living in Geneva, Wabash Township, Adams County, Indiana as head of household with his wife, Mary E. G. Hiestand (age 59, born Indiana).

In 1920,[10] John W. Hiestand (age 75, born Ohio) was living in Geneva, Wabash Township, Adams County, Indiana as head of household with his wife, Mary E. G. Hiestand (age 68, born Indiana), with their daughter, Pearl Western (age 37, born Ohio), and his Western grandchildren (by Pearl), born Indiana (age, sex): i) Cothel (16, M), ii) Reba (13, F), iii) Donivee (4, F). John was a retired farmer.

In 1930,[11] John W. Hiestand (age 85, widowed, born Ohio) was living in Montepelier, Harrison Township, Blackford County, Indiana as head and sole member of his household.

John Wesley Hiestand (age 90 years, 2 months, 11 days) died on 23 Nov 1934 in Montepelier, Chester Township, Wells County, Indiana, [1] [12] and he was buried in the Stahl Cemetery, Petroleum, Wells County, Indiana, USA. [13] The cause of death was lobar pneumonia. John was born on 12 Sep 1844 in Ohio; his parents had been Michael Hiestand and Catherine Bayhort [sic]. John's usual occupation had been a farmer. John was widowed at the time of his death; his deceased spouse was Mary Jennetta Stevens [sic].
