Isabelle J. Hiestand was born on 12 Apr 1834[1] in Ohio;[2] she was the daughter of Aaron Hiestand and Mary Cloud.[3]
In 1840,[4] Isabella Heaston's father, Aaron Heaston [sic], was enumerated in the federal census, and he was living in Liberty Township, Fairfield County, Ohio as head of household, which included (age range) [possible names]: a) males - 1 (20 - 29) [Aaron Hiestand]; b) females - 1 (< 5) [Catherine Hiestand], 1 (5 - 9) [Isabella Hiestand], 1 (20 - 29) [Mary Hiestand].
In 1850,[3] Isabella Heaston [sic] (age 16, born Ohio) was living in Liberty Township, Fairfield County, Ohio in the household of her father, Aaron Heaston [sic] (age 31, born Ohio), with her mother, Maria Heaston [sic] (age 30, born Ohio), and with her Heaston [sic] siblings, born Ohio (age, sex): ii) Catherine (14, F), iii) Samuel (7, M), iv) Lewis (4, M), v) Jesse (2, M). Aaron's occupation was a farmer. Of note, on the same census enumeration sheet,[3] the family immediately preceding Aaron's was that of his widowed mother, Catherine Heaston, with his Heaston brothers & sisters.
On 4 May 1854 in Fairfield County, Ohio,[5] Isabella Hiestand married Daniel Winter.
In 1860,[6] Isabel Winter (age 26, born Ohio) was living in Bern Township, Fairfield County, Ohio in the household of her husband, Daniel Winter (age 27, born Germany), with their Winter children, born Ohio (age, sex): i) Edward (5, M), ii) Charles (3, M), iii) Henrietta (1, F); also in the household was a farm laborer, Daniel Dowler (26, born Ohio). Daniel Winter's occupation was a farmer; he owned real estate valued at $800 and personal estate at $150.
In 1870,[7] Isabell Winters (age 36, born Ohio) was living in Shelby Township, Shelby County, Illinois in the household of her husband, Daniel Winters (age 37, born "Hanover"), with their Winters children, born Ohio except as noted (age, sex): i) Edward (14, M), ii) Charles (13, M), iii) Henritta (10, F), iv) Albert (8, M), v) Lewis (4, M, Illinois), vi) Eunice (2, F, "Hanover"). Daniel's occupation was a farmer; he owned real estate valued at $3000 and personal estate at $700. Of note, on the same census enumeration sheet,[7] the next family listed was that of Isabell's brother-in-law, Lewis Winters, with his wife & children.
In 1880,[8] Isabelle Winters (age 46, born Ohio) was living in Shelbyville, Shelby County, Illinois in the household of her husband, Daniel Winters (age 47, born Ohio [sic]), with their Winters children, born Ohio except as noted (age, sex): i) Etta (20, F), ii) Albert (18, M), iii) Lewis (15, M), iv) Emma (12, F, Illinois), v) Minnie (9, F, Illinois). Daniel's occupation was a doctor.
In 1900,[2] Isabella Winter (age 66, born Apr 1834 in Ohio) was living in Columbus, Cherokee County, Kansas in the household of her husband, Daniel Winter (age 67, born Feb 1833 in Germany), with their unmarried daughter, Emma A. Winter (age 32, born Jan 1868 in Illinois). Their occupations were: a) Daniel - doctor; b) Emma - saleslady. Daniel had immigrated to the U.S. in 1843, and he had been living in the U.S. for the past 57 years. Isabella had born 8 children, 5 of whom were currently living.
In 1910,[9] Isabella J. Winter (age 76, born Ohio) was living in Columbus, Cherokee County, Kansas in the household of her husband of 56 years, Daniel R. Winter (age 77, born Germany). Daniel's occupation was a physician in general practice. Isabella had born 8 children, 4 of whom were currently living.
On 13 Feb 1912 in Cherokee County, Kansas,[10] Isabell J. Winter's husband, Daniel Winter, signed his last will and testament. In his will, Daniel listed the following family members, their respective relationships to him, and their respective bequethals:
In 1920,[11] Isabell J. Winter (age 86, widowed, born Ohio) was living in Columbus, Cherokee County, Kansas in the household of her son-in-law, Warren E. Harvey (age 67, born Indiana), with her daughter (Warren's wife), Henrietta M. Harvey (age 59, born Ohio); also in the household was a boarder, Mrs. Eva Meginity (age 55, born Kentucky). Warren's occupation was a "stewart" in a state hospital.
In 1925,[12] Isabelle J. Winter (age 91, born Ohio) was living in Chautauqua County, Kansas in the household of her son-in-law, Warren E. Harvey (age 73, born Indiana), with her daughter (Warren's wife), Henrietta Harvey (age 63, born Ohio). Warren's occupation was retired.
Isabelle J. (Hiestand) Winter died on 4 Nov 1926, and she was buried in the Columbus City Cemetery, Columbus, Cherokee County, Kansas. [1]
