Sheet 6A of the census shows Bernard Higdon (36), wife Mary (39) and children Raymond E (18) Mary Louise (16), Katherine Pauline (15), James Lamar (13), Gerald (11), John William (9) Thomas Harold (7), Marvin Vincent (3) and Dorothy Marie (10 mos.) living in the home at 624 West 3rd Street. The home is rented for $25. All report they and their parents were born in Kentucky except for Mary whose father was born in Germany. Bernard is a delivery man for a furniture store, Raymond is a paper hanger and Mary Louise is a grid cutter at a radio tube shop.

Sheet 13A shows Gerald Higdon (21), wife Mary (22) living at 309 ½ E. 4th Street. They have four lodgers living with them, including her older sister, Elizabeth Barkhouse (24), and maybe his relatives, Nina Mae Higdon (38) and Betty Marie Higdon (12). All report they were born in Kentucky and all but Mary report they were living in the same place in 1935. Mary reports she was living in rural Daviess County in 1935. Gerald is a sprayer at a radio tube plant and earned $825 the previous year. Mary reports she completed 2 years of high school and Gerald completed the 8th grade.

Gerald Joseph Higdon, born Mar 15, 1919 in Daviess County, is 21 when we completed his WWII Draft Registration Card. He lists his wife, Thomasina Higdon as the one who will always know his address. They are living at 17 Colonial Court in Owensboro. He is employed by Ken Rad Corp in Owensboro. He is reported to be 5'9" tall, weighs 140 pounds, has brown hair and brown eyes and a dark complexion.

Sheet 27 of the census shows Joseph J Higdon (31), wife Thomasina (32) and children Gerald M (8), Janice M (6) and Tamala Jean (1) living in the home. All report they were born in Kentucky. Joseph is a cabinet maker in a furniture plant and reports he worked 60 hours the week before the census.

The 1960 City Directory for Owensboro shows Gerald J. Higdon and Mary T living at 1406 E 4th Street. Gerald owns Higdon Wood Products.

Obituary
Gerald J. Higdon, 73, of 220 Bon Harbor Cove, Owensboro, died Friday, Feb. 5, 1993, at Owensboro-Daviess County Hospital. He was born in Owensboro, was president of Higdon Construction Co. and was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church where he had served on the finance committee. He was a member of the president's advisory board for Kirby Building Systems and was a Kentucky Colonel and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was the son of the late Bernard and Mary Philomena Strehl Higdon. Survivors include his wife, Frances Smith Higdon; two sons, Gerald M. Higdon and Donald R. Higdon, both of Owensboro; a stepson, David Bugg of Owensboro; three daughters, Janice Payne of Lansing, Mich., Margaret Ann Stuart and Pamela Shelton, both of Owensboro; a stepdaughter, Pamela Hammond of Tampa, Fla.; 19 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Thomas H. Higdon, Hugh Higdon and Gene Higdon, all of Owensboro; and two sisters, Louise Roehm of Owensboro and Sister Mary Sheila Higdon of Whitesville. Services are at 1 p.m. Monday at Precious Blood Catholic Church. Entombment in Resurrection Cemetery, Owensboro. Visitation at Glenn Funeral Home 4 to 8 p.m. today, noon to 8 p.m. Sunday and after 9 a.m. Monday. Prayers will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday and at 12:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Memorial Fund, Precious Blood Catholic Church, 3306 Fenmore St., Owensboro, Ky. 42301. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.
