At the time of Stinson Herbert "Hub" Higdon's birth, Benjamin Harrison was the U.S. President. During Hub's lifetime, The Spanish-American War took place; and, WWI and WWII both took place. The Great Depression also took place during his lifetime. At the time of Hub Higdon's death, Dwight D. Eisenhower was U.S. President and the Cold War had begun.
Hub Higdon was the youngest living child born to his parents, Nace and Anna, in 1891 in Kentucky. He resided with them and his older sister, Cora. His other siblings had already moved out of the house by the 1900 census. In the 1910 census, he is residing at the US military base, Camp Keithley, located in Mindanao, Philippines. He appears to have been drafted in 1917-1918 for WWI. In the 1920, 1930, and 1940 censuses, he is married to Pearl Bryant Witten and they have several children. He is drafted again in 1942 for WWII. (I don't know if he served as he might have been too old by that point. Will need to investigate further.) He died in 1957, in Grayson County, Kentucky.
Hub was a Mason and an emblem of the Freemasons appears on his grave marker.
