At the estimated time of Ignatius' birth, the American Revolution was coming to an end and America gained it's independence from England. During Ignatius' lifetime, the U.S. Constitution was written and ratified, and the United States as a country was born. The first President of the United States, George Washington, was elected. At the estimated time of Ignatius' death, James K. Polk would likely have been the U.S. President.

"Samuel C. in the son of Ignatius Higdon (1773- Dec. 3, 1846) and Mildred Elizabeth (Millie) Dyson (Sep. 18, 1789 - Nov. 1, 1854), a daughter of Samuel and Lydia Murphy Dyson. Both were born in Maryland and died in Grayson County. Both are buried at St. Benedict Cemetery." p. 192
