Biography

Ruth Higgins was born, perhaps Kingston, Somerset County, New Jersey, say 1732, the daughter of Joseph Higgins. See Research Notes. She died in Somerset County, before __ September 1807 (date of estate inventory).[1]

She was called Ruth Carle in her father's 17 May 1782 will.[2]

Assuming she was the mother of all his children, Ruth Higgins married, probably Somerset County, say about 1750 (birth of child), Ephraim Carle. He was born, perhaps Somerset County, about 1725. Ephraim died of Montgomery Township, Somerset County, New Jersey, between 11 March 1805 (date of will) and 15 April 1806 (will proved).[3][4]

From Calendar of New Jersey Wills ... 11:57,

1808, Sept. ---. Carle, Ruth, of Somerset Co. Inventory, $211.25; made by David Wikoff and John Kray. Sworn by Ralph Eberson, Adm'r, Oct. 3, 1808.

Research Notes

Higgins Notes
Carle-Higgins Children

Ruth Higgins Birth Date/Location. Assuming Rebecca (Carle) Sentenney's birth year is 1779, then if her mother, Ruth (Higgins) Carle, was 18 when Joseph was born (so born about 1732), she would have been 47 when Rebecca was born--seems a little old. As to the location of her birth, Katherine Chapin Higgins wrote, "Joseph Higgins settled at Amwell in Hunterdon County before March 25, 1737, for on that date he secured a loan ..." See Katherine Chapin Higgins, Richard Higgins ... (1918), 92-93 at 92 (Joseph Higgins); digital images, Hathi Trust. Where Joseph Higgins resided prior to 1737 is not known at this writing.

Prior Version. A prior version of one profile about Ruth reported she was born Amwell Township, Hunterdon, New Jersey, 27 May 1728. No source has been found to support that claim. Another profile about Ruth reported she was born Amwell, Hunterdon, New Jersey, USA, 17 May 1732, all citing #S-1456332795, as one or more Ancestry Public Member Trees. One profile reported she was the daughter of Joseph Higgins (1702-1782) and Sarah (UNKNOWN) Higgins (1700-1777). Her association as the daughter of Sarah (UNKNOWN) Higgins (1700-1777) was severed.

Higgins-453 and Higgins-210 are not ready to be merged because: Once the birth date conflict is resolved, hope to see this Ruth Higgins merged.

Thanks for proposing this merge! There's no sources for either birth date, so I'm fine with using whichever date you feel is more appropriate. I'll approve the merge.

ETA: Whoops, sorry, I was looking at the other merge (Higgins-7021 and Higgins-210), which I just put through. I'll look at this one next.

Thank you, Lisa,

I'll work on the post-merge profile. --Gene

Higgins-7021 and Higgins-210 appear to represent the same person because: At least I believe Joseph Higgins had only one daughter, Ruth Higgins. Please merge.

Have adopted this orphaned profile. Believe Ruth Higgins (1728-1808) to be a duplicate of this Ruth Higgins, but where is the evidence that a given name (Sarah) is known for her mother?

I have also adopted the orphaned profile of Sarah (UNKNOWN) Higgins (1700-1777).

Have set up merges/matches. I plan to create a research note and then sever the linked mother. --Gene

Need your help on this profile, you have her mother as her father, and there is a duplicate that needs to be merged. Thanks
