Ruth Higgins was born on 11 September 1700 in Eastham, Barnstable, (then) Province of Massachusetts Bay, the daughter of Joseph and Ruth Higgins.

She married first on 11 October 1716 in Eastham Ebenezer Stewart/Steward of Chatham,[4] son of Hugh and Waitstill (Denne) Stewart of Yarmouth.[2] He died after 1728 when he witnessed a will. Ruth and Ebenezer apparently had no children.[2]
She married secondly James Eldredge before 1733. James died Chatham on 19 July 1757. James was probably married previously to a woman who was the mother of his children Seth and Mary.[2]
James Eldredge's will, dated 16 May 1757 and proved 26 July 1757, names wife Ruth; sons Abner and James, both under 21; son Seth living in Rhode Island; son Zephaniah; daughters Mary Eldridge, Rebecca Collings and Ruth Bearse; wife Ruth and brother-in-law Solomon Collings of Chatham were executors.[2]
Widow Ruth accompanied sons Abner and Zephaniah to Liverpool, Nova Scotia in the 1760s.[2]
She died after 13 March 1762 when she was named in a deed, probably in Nova Scotia.[2]
