The John Hilliard that is the father of Philemon B. Hilliard was born around 1781 or 1782 in South Carolina. He married Elizabeth Claiborne and had 10 children. The family moved to Alabama where John died in Feb. 1850. His estate petition was filed in Madison County, Alabama and lists all of this children (including Philemon, Mary Jane and also Claiborne Hilliard (named after his wife's maiden name). I have copies of these documents. This was clearly a southern family and John's children were all born in the South. This John was my 4g grandfather.
The John Hilliard in this profile appears to have been born and lived his life in Northampton, PA. He died in Nov. 1857 per his entry in findagrave (https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/64578861/john-hilliard) - a full 7 years after the other John Hilliard. It shows his marriage to Anna Butz and reflects that Elias and Catherine are his children. This could clearly not be the same family, as this appears to be a northern family and this John appears to have remained in Northampton Pa., making his identification with the other John almost impossible.
With your permission, I would propose that we separate the family and that I would create (or search for) a different John Hilliard with the correct information and will transfer Philemon and Mary Jane over to him as his children. You would want to remove Elizabeth and your John's spouse, as I am almost certain that Elizabeth Claiborne was the spouse of the South Carolina John Hilliard.
Thanks, Tim
