Biography
When Jane Amanda Hilliard was born on September 24, 1826, in Kershaw, South Carolina, her father, Armistead, was 32, and her mother, Mary, was 31. She married William G. Duncan on December 19, 1844, in Lancaster, South Carolina. They had six children (only 2 alive in 1900);[1] four are known:
- Mahala (1847–)
- Armistead Dandridge Hilliard (1850–1923)[2]
- Sarah 'Sally' L. (1855–1927)[3]
- Nettie (1861–)
William died in 1866 and Jane died on December 16, 1902, having lived a long life of 76 years, and was buried in Lancaster, South Carolina.[4]
