Biography

Jacob was born about 1718. He was killed by rebel Indians in 1777. (See his son John Hilliker's claim for services rendered and losses incurred during the American Revolution, where John says Jacob and John's brother Abraham Hilliker joined Burgoyne's forces at Saratoga. It also gives details of their property in Saratoga).[1]

. Jacob and Elizabeth were married 10 Jul 1742 at the Old Dutch Church of Sleepy Hollow (now Tarrytown, NY). Jacob was born on Cortland Manor, and Elizabeth in New Rochelle (New Reesel). They were both living on Philipsburg Manor at the time of their marriage. [2]

Although their children's names are not listed in this particular transcription of the church records, the record book indicates 12 children were baptized there. [3] In addition, Jacob and Elizabeth were indexed as being witnesses/sponsors of five baptisms in the church.[4]

Acknowledgements

Many thanks too my late father, Rodney Ledoux who spent nearly $200 in overseas phone calls in 1983 while I was stationed in England in the Navy, trying to convince me to go the British Public Records office and see if there was anything on John Hilliker's service during the Revolutionary War. See Rudolph Ledoux's record for the story behind this. The rest, as they say, is history.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Jacob by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Jacob:

Hilliker-109 and Hilliker-51 appear to represent the same person because: Jon, based on correspondence with your great-uncle Chester several years ago, these are the same person. I apologize to not noticing this earlier. This will add marriage date/place, as well as additional children.
