Disputed Associations

George Norbury Mackenzie in 1914 wrote regarding John Scribner: "It is claimed that his wife was Mary Hilton, dau. of Edward Hilton, one of the historic founders of New Hampshire, 1623, and that he came from Kent, England." [1] This earlier source cites no primary source for this information. The same information is reported in John S. Wurts' Magna Charta (1954).[2]

Robert Charles Anderson's report about Edward Hilton doesn't show a daughter named Mary, and no children were reported born to Edward and second wife, Katherine (Shapleigh) Treworgy. All contemporary records simply record her name as Mary (Maiden Name Unknown).[3]

Biography

Mary was born about 1640. She passed away about 1680.

Hi Steven,

Please see the profile for "Disputed Associations."

In the alternative, are you suggesting we should add Wurts to those who have published the disputed item?

They also had a son Thomas mentioned in husband John's will. Samuel was not mentioned in the will. Is there a source for him?
