Biography

William was born about 1658. These Hiltons made their home on the Southside of Albany - the residence of choice for a number of soldier families. William Hilton was a would-be trader who may have opened the family inn that became an Albany landmark for many decades.

"Innkeeper William Hilton was the patriarch of the Albany Hilton family. He often was called William Hilton "the elder!" Family resources state that he was born in England and that he emigrated from Leeds in Yorkshire in 1686. At that time, he was about twenty-one-years-old." [1]

LNAB

Hilten is the surname that appears in all but one of William's church records. He is recorded as "William Hilte" in his marriage record, the n's are clipped from both surnames. Quackenbush-118 07:10, 28 January 2017 (EST)

Hilton-2816 and Hilten-5 appear to represent the same person because:

Hi,

I reproposed the merge because they are the same and should be merged, and ... to explain the merge process or how it works if no one responds to a proposal a bit more.. if no one reponds to a merge proposal normally within a month (30 days) the merge is going to be approved by default (by the system) and can be merged. Because they were set a unmerged matches, it will again take a month or so from now if no one responds, but when the month is passed they can be merged. ;)

Greets and hope it helps,

Bea :)
